America, a nation of immigrants, has always been built on the idea of equality of opportunity. From the Puritans to the latest families arriving at the borders of Texas and Arizona, the promise of equal opportunity has been the driving force behind immigration. This idea is enshrined in the American dream, where all individuals have the chance to succeed, regardless of their background.

I propose to understand equality of opportunity as a level playing field where everyone starts at the same point with the same chances to succeed. In the journey towards the American Dream, all individuals should begin at the same starting line, with the same training and resources, such as proper nutrition and education. The real goal is to see who can run the race best, not to guarantee equal results but to ensure that everyone has a fair shot.

Critics of the Concept

Some argue that the concept of equality of opportunity is vague or, worse, a liberal plot. However, the foundational importance of this principle in America is undeniable. To mock it is to misunderstand the bedrock of American nationalism and the foundational documents that underpin our governance system.

Hypocrisy and Inequality

Those who hold white privilege or class privilege often mock those who have not had the same opportunities. This is not only a display of hypocrisy but also a dangerous attitude.
