Exploring the Joy of Riding Metro Trains Just for Fun
You're not alone in enjoying the experience of riding metro trains simply for the sake of it! This quirky pastime, known among enthusiasts, is a delightful way to immerse yourself in the urban culture and local customs of a city. People often engage in urban exploration, people-watching, and enjoying the unique sights and sounds that only such public transportation can offer. It's a relaxing and enjoyable experience for many, providing a sense of adventure and a break from the everyday routine.
Why I Love Riding Metro Trains
Riding metro trains is not just about traveling from one place to another. It's about the journey and discovering new sights, sounds, and experiences. Whether it's sitting on the seats inside the train or savoring a snack while you ride, there are countless ways to make the most of this underground journey. The thrill of traveling through a city's underground or elevated systems is unparalleled and can be a highlight of any urban adventure.
I, too, have traveled extensively on metro trains. I've ridden 57 metro systems across the world, and I aspire to reach 100 one day! My wife thinks I’m a bit quirky in my pursuit, but I can’t help but seek out these unique experiences. Every time we visit an international city, I make it a point to explore the local subway system. Not only are they efficient and punctual, but they also offer a slice of local culture that you might otherwise miss.
Personal Journey Through Metro Systems
My love affair with metro trains began when I was seven years old, living in Moscow during a six-month stay in Communist Russia. I found the metro stations in Moscow to be incredible works of art, and my first ride left me fascinated. Fast forward to the age of 20, I had ridden every single subway in the United States. By 30, after riding the metro systems of Cairo, Egypt, and Sydney, Australia, I had finally ventured through the subway systems on six continents—except Antarctica, of course.
By the age of 40, I could proudly say that I had visited the geographical extremes of metro systems—Finland's northernmost, Argentina's southernmost, Japan's easternmost, and San Francisco's westernmost stations. However, my journey hasn't ended here; as of 2019, I have ridden through 61 world subway systems!
Enjoying the Metro Experience
One of the most enjoyable aspects of riding metro trains is the ability to fully immerse yourself in the experience. Whether you're sitting on the seats, standing in the passenger car, or even exploring the head of the train, every part of it offers a distinct joy. And don't forget to bring along some food; it adds an extra layer of enjoyment as you travel. Think about the convenience of having a refreshing cup of coffee or a sandwich while you commute. It's the perfect way to unwind and makes the journey even more delightful.
So, if you find yourself in a city and the metro train is within reach, take the opportunity to explore. It's a quirky but enjoyable pastime that you won't regret. Whether you're a seasoned traveler or a first-time rider, there's always something new to discover in the world of metro trains.
