My Passion for Bicycles: A Journey Through Two-Wheel Adventures
My Passion for Bicycles: A Journey Through Two-Wheel Adventures
As a avid cyclist and motorcycling enthusiast, one of my favorite memories is the 1983 Yezdi that I learned to ride on and which I still own. Unlike modern bikes, this vintage motorcycle has a timeless appeal. The Yezdi, though not marred by the newer offerings from Mahindra, remains my cherished vehicle, maintained in impeccable condition and deeply loved from its core.
Favorite Cruiser Bikes: The Art of Touring on Wheels
My preference for cruiser bikes is more towards touring models. These motorcycles come equipped with ample luggage space and premium audio features, making them ideal for extended journeys. Some of the most popular touring motorcycles according to my preference include:
Honda Wing Bird: Known for its comfort and engine power. Harley Davidson Road Glide / Street Glide: Renowned for its classic design and powerful engine. Indian Springfield / Roadmaster: Priding themselves on comfortable rides and strong engines. Each of these motorcycles offers exceptional comfort, robust power, and ample luggage space, making them perfect for long touring trips.
First Motorcycle Experience: A Proud Beginning with Suzuki Gixxer
My first foray into the two-wheeler world was with the Suzuki Gixxer, a 150cc model. Buying this bike in 2015 was a significant milestone, as I was not even familiar with the operations. Despite a series of accidents and spending around 35,000 kilometers, I have mastered the art of riding. The engine of this motorcycle can pull efficiently from 15 km/h to 70 km/h even in the third gear with a full throttle. The revving sound is pleasant after 4,000 rpm, and I have achieved a top speed of 118 km/h.
However, the Gixxer hasn't been without its challenges. The braking system is not very reliable beyond 60 km/h, and I have experienced slipping on wet roads. The mileage typically ranges between 45–50 km per liter, which can be a concern in urban settings.
Comparing Gixxer and FZ-16
Similar to the Gixxer, I tested the Yamaha FZ-16 in the past. While powerful, the engine can sound grubby after 50–60 km/h. The handling of the FZ-16 is impressive, and the braking is smooth. Its mileage ranges between 40–45 km per liter, though Yamaha has since downsized its engines. The switch finish on the FZ-16 is very top-notch.
Comparing the Gixxer and the FZ-16, the Gixxer performs well after 60–70 km/h until 90 km/h, making it more suitable for hard braking. The Honda Hornet has also been part of my collection, with its smooth engine up to 60 km/h, but it becomes grumpy afterward. The Hornet has a better combination of braking, even in wet conditions.
In terms of mileage, the Gixxer performs smoothly and is refined during city rides. I have achieved a mileage of 55 km/l, with no hard revving or overtakes. The fit and finish of the Gixxer are also commendable.
When it comes to the best overall package, I still lean towards the Gixxer for its ride, handling, and mileage, even with its newer iterations.
Through these experiences, I have developed a deep appreciation for the classic and the modern two-wheelers, and I continue to find joy in exploring the world on my bike.
