Ensuring the health and wellness of pilots is a critical component of aviation safety. A Class 2 medical certificate, issued by the Directorate General of Civil Aviation (DGCA) of India, is a must-have for all wannabe pilots aspiring to be licensed. This article walks you through the detailed steps required to obtain a Class 2 medical certificate through the DGCA process.
Step 1: Understanding the Process
Navigate to the DGCA Paras website and download the comprehensive Paras User Manual. This manual will serve as your guiding resource, offering detailed instructions and clarifications essential for the application process.

Before initiating your application, ensure you possess your Board Verification Certificate (BVC), a vital document verifying your educational credentials. The BVC is mandatory for the application process.
Step 3: Prepare a Conforming Photograph
Your photograph must adhere to specific specifications outlined in the Paras User Manual. The photograph should have a white background and specific dimensions: 35 mm in height and 25 mm in width, with the face occupying 70% of the space. Ensure your photo has a matte finish for optimal results.
Step 4: Organize Soft Copies of Documents
Digitally scan all necessary documents as per the specifications detailed in the Paras User Manual. These scanned copies are to be submitted during the online application phase.
Step 5: Complete Your Online Application
Following the successful completion of the online application, you will receive an email from DGCA containing a PDF attachment of the application. Print this application PDF in color and complete Part 8.
Step 6: Prepare for Physical Submission
Procure an A2 or A3 size envelope for dispatching physical documents to DGCA. Print pertinent information on the front side of the envelope and arrange documents according to the sequence specified on Page 2 of your CN Application, inserting them into the envelope.
Step 7: Final Checklist
Before sealing the envelope and dispatching it to DGCA, meticulously verify:
All documents are attested copies. Your CN Application is complete and accurate. Your Temp ID is correctly noted on the envelope cover page.Step 8: Dispatch to DGCA
Visit the nearest Post Office and dispatch the envelope via Speed Post exclusively. Speed Post facilitates tracking through a tracking ID, allowing you to monitor the application's progress. Dispatch the envelope promptly as there is a 10-day window for it to reach DGCA.
Step 9: Acknowledgement and Outcome of Application
Affected by submission and completion of the requisite steps, await notification from DGCA via email regarding your application status. Possible outcomes include:
Success: If your application and documents meet the requirements, a Permanent Computer Number (CN) will be allotted, and you will receive notification via email. Rejection: In case of document discrepancies, the application will be rejected. Review the reasons provided in the rejection email and initiate a new application, addressing suggested amendments. Include a cover letter with details of the previous application, the Temp ID, reasons for rejection, and modifications made. Persistence and meticulousness are crucial in addressing issues and resubmitting your application with necessary adjustments to enhance your prospects of obtaining the DGCA Computer Number. Each step is instrumental in advancing your journey toward becoming a licensed pilot.
