Introduction

During his presidency, Donald Trump made numerous false statements, misleading claims, and outright lies that have left America and the world questioning his honesty. One of the most famous and inexplicable among these is the

Misspoken Map Statement During the Capitol Riot

Following the January 6th, 2021 Capitol riot, Trump went on a television interview where he misspoke about which states would be affected by some kind of impending crisis. Instead of correcting the error, he doubled down. He not only insisted on the falsehood, but he also drew a map, which further complicated the situation. This drew scrutiny from the National Weather Service, which had to clarify that his claims were inaccurate. Interestingly, Trump even directed blame towards the weather service.

This incident highlights the pointlessness of the lie and its ease of correction. A simple retraction would have sufficed, but instead, Trump added more confusion to an already tense situation. The clear falsity of the map was evident to anyone paying attention, and it is difficult to understand why he would irresponsibly persist with the lie.

The Failed Wall As a Pointless Lie

Another notable instance of Trump's pointlessness lies is his insistence that the border wall was under construction despite his administration having failed to secure funding for it. Trump stated, "the wall is under construction," to appease his supporters who were vehemently against the idea of the wall. He knew very well that the wall was not being built and that there was no money for it. It is baffling why he would continue to peddle such a lie given that there was no way to make the wall function without serious funding and resources.

This kind of dishonesty provides a window into the psyche of Trump supporters. While the reasons for their belief in such falsehoods might vary, many of them are deeply invested in supporting Trump's narrative, even when it is clear that he has broken promises and made unfounded claims.

National Oath of Office and False Promises

When Trump took the oath of office, he swore to uphold the Constitution and protect the rights of the American people. One of the most notorious false statements he made during his presidency was the claim that "if you want to keep your doctor, you can keep your doctor. If you want to keep your health insurance plan, you can keep your plan. Period!" This was a clear falsehood, as the Affordable Care Act (Obamacare) was repealed in 2017 under his administration, thereby effectively making it impossible for people to keep their healthcare plans as promised. Even though he has claimed this to be from a previous president, when compared to his own actions during his presidency, it is evident that he was lying to his constituents.

The Wall: A Perpetuating Lie

The wall has been one of the most enduring and misleading narratives of Trump's presidency. His followers persist in believing that the wall will solve the border crisis, despite the complete lack of evidence to support this claim. The wall, as depicted in their minds, looks more like a fantasy from a medieval fantasy novel like "Game of Thrones" than a practical solution. The idea of a wall being an effective barrier is contradicted by the vastpanse of the U.S. border, the terrain, and the resources it would take to actually build and maintain such walls. Trump’s supporters continue to support this idea, even when presented with clear evidence that it is entirely unrealistic.

The internal logic of these supporters is often rooted in a desire to believe in a simpler, more controllable world. They may be struggling with existential and socio-economic issues, leading them to cling to narratives that bring a sense of order and predictability. Trump's masterful ability to arouse such feelings in his supporters has made him more than just a politician; he has become a cult figure whose followers often disregard clear, factual evidence.

In conclusion, the most inexplicable and pointless lies told by Donald Trump during his presidency serve as a stark reminder of the importance of truth and the dangers of allowing leaders to persistently mislead the public. These lies not only expose the fragility of democratic institutions but also highlight the emotional and psychological factors that can blind even the most rational individuals to clear evidence.
