Singapore's Changi Airport has long been praised for its exceptional food offerings. With a wide range of establishments that cater to various tastes and budgets, it is no wonder why Changi is often mentioned as a standout among other airports. Whether you're looking for a quick bite or a full meal, the airport's food service is reasonably priced and high-quality, making it a favorite among travelers.

A Personal Revival: Detroit's Big Apple Bagels

During a brief layover in Detroit, I discovered a staple that has become quite beloved: Big Apple Bagels. This was a refreshing break from the typical sub-par airport canteens. The bagel, paired with creamy cheese and lox, was a masterpiece. The additional touch of capers added a delightful tanginess that made the meal memorable. The coffee, though not the star of the show, was still a pleasant companion to the delicious bagel.

In Stockholm Arlanda, the coffee and Danish pastries are truly exceptional, providing a delightful taste of Scandinavia.

While there are many airports with mediocre food, there are a few that consistently surprise. Singapore is known for its incredible cuisine, but I found the food in the airport to be less impressive. Vancouver, on the other hand, has had no notable dining establishments since the closure of Milestones. Austin Bergstrom, once a hub for meat lovers, now lacks the exceptional BBQ spots it once boasted. In Tokyo's Narita Airport, the sushi and sushi bowls are noteworthy and rival those found in top U.S. sushi restaurants, despite occasional hiccups like the shrimp salad episode.

The variety and quality of food at airports can significantly impact a traveler's experience. From big chain restaurants to local favorites, each airport offers its own unique culinary adventure. While some airports fall short, the availability of memorable dining experiences makes the airport a place worth exploring and savoring.
