The Chaotic World of Casino Floor Supervisors

One instance that stands out vividly was during a shift when I was straightening the money tray to make it easily readable and countable. In walked a second-level supervisor, who quickly shouted, “Why do you have your fingers in the money without calling me over first?” This was the very tray the tray that I had meticulously arranged without issue—until the new directive came in.

Another instance involved a situation where a first-level boss walked towards me, mouth agape, and pointed out that the tray needed to be in order as he approached. As I was explaining that Rita, another dealer, had told us not to touch it, this boss barked, “Well, Rita’s not here, so you’ll do it my way!” The stark inconsistency in instructions left me singing the theme from the Otis Redding song, “I Can’t Do What Ten People Tell Me to Do.”
