General Managers of all Zonal Railways have been directed to stop the first train from approaching a station where signal repair work is completed until safety has been ensured. This initiative is part of a broader set of safety protocols designed to minimize the risk of human error and system failures.

Strict Protocols for Signal Maintenance

According to the new guidelines, staff from the Signal and Telecommunication Department must strictly follow proper disconnection and reconnection protocols. This includes obtaining explicit permission from the Station Master at the proposed maintenance or repair location. The reconnection process must be validated by the Station Master, and only after this confirmation can the first train be allowed to pass.

First Train Approvals

The first train to pass on the main line in both directions must stop at the Reception or Outer Signal. It is permitted to approach only at a slow speed and, after ensuring safe passage, the Station Master can clear the Departure or Starter Signal. This measure covers all types of trains, including the Vande Bharat, Rajdhani, and Shatabdi Expresses.

Security Enhancements

To enhance security, Relay Rooms and Goomties or Relay Huts should now be secured with double locks or digitized locks. The Station Master will hold one key, while the signaling staff will hold the other. This ensures that unauthorized access is significantly reduced. Until double locking is implemented, the Station Master will retain the key to the single lock. The relevant entries regarding the issue and deposit of the key should be meticulously maintained by the Station Master as they already do for station relay rooms.
